Policies

In order to give your child the best possible care, it is very important that the channels of communication between home and Day-After-Day are kept open. These policies lay the groundwork for that goal. The Parent Handbook details these policies at length. Each family receives a Parent Handbook at enrollment and/or orientation. If you are interested, please call or stop by to ask for yours.

Enrollment Policy

Enrollment in D.A.D. is limited because of space. Priority is given to the Horace Mann children presently enrolled in D.A.D. and their siblings. Next admitted are

  • incoming full-time kindergarteners...

  • full-time elementary children...

  • part-time kindergarteners...

  • part-time elementary children...

in that order.

A minimum enrollment of 6 hours per week is required.

Equal Opportunity Policy

D.A.D. does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, handicaps, or national or ethnic origin in the admissions, hiring, educational policies, financial assistance, or other aspects of its operations or management.

Pick-up Policies

If your child is to leave with someone not specified on the dismissal sheet you must notify us. We will not release a child to anyone who you have not listed on your dismissal sheet. Dismissal sheets are available online on the Newsletters & Forms page.

If you need extra hours on a particular day, you must call the staff to get prior approval for the extra coverage. The Director will bill families for the extra hours.

Late Pick-up Policy

The program closes at 6:00 p.m. Due to the persistent problem of children being picked up later than closing time, we have reluctantly instituted a late fee policy. The late fee will be $2.00 for each minute after 6:05. This policy is strictly enforced. The Director will bill you separately, and the money will go to the staff member who was detained (in cash).

Illness Policy

Sick children should be kept at home. A sick child may infect other children and will be uncomfortable at the program. If your child becomes ill at D.A.D., the Director may ask you to make other arrangements for his/her care.

Absence Policy

If your child is to be absent on a particular day, you MUST call the program to let us know. Teachers are at D.A.D. from 11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and the answering machine is always available for leaving any and all messages.

Discipline Policy

All members of the D.A.D. program must treat each other and teachers with respect. Teasing and unwanted physical contact is not allowed or tolerated. Children are made aware of behavioral expectations at the first meeting, on a frequent basis at other meetings which occur daily, and individually when an incident should take place.

  • Remove child or children from the situation and other children not involved
  • Inform the child or children that the behavior is not allowed. (The child is not personally criticized but the particular action is addressed)
  • If the teacher is not a witness, they will assemble facts, and listen to the children involved
  • Inform the child why the particular action is not allowed - the action or words could hurt others
  • If the child's action is repeated or severe, place the child in time out. Explain why he or she is in time out.
  • If the incident occurs at a particular activity, the child is not allowed to continue the activity for the rest of the day.
  • If the incident occurs between or involving two or more children, all children are made aware of their behavior and must experience the consequences equally.
  • Children should be allowed to communicate and apologize.
