Kindergarten Program

Lauren Gallagher is the D.A.D. Kindergarten Coordinator. Our Kindergarten Program is geared toward the transition our youngest members are making into their new school lives. We understand the effects a long school day has on our K's. The K's are with us longer than our other children, from 12:30 until their pick-up. From 12:30 to 3:00, the K's have their own, specialized curriculum. This allows for more one-on-one time with the teachers and multiple activities. Those activities include:

  • Lunch upon arrival from their classrooms

  • Art projects specifically tailored for K's

  • Outside time (weather permitting)

  • Naps as needed

Following the Horace Mann schedule, the K's are divided into two groups:

  • Apples - who are with us at 12:30 Thursdays and Fridays

  • Bananas - who are with us at 12:30 Mondays and Wednesdays

Our K's are an integral part of the D.A.D. program and we look forward to being involved in their growth for years to come.

Art Program

The art program at D.A.D. is extremely popular. It affords opportunities for children K-6th to express their creativity through multi-media projects. These projects cover a range from working with play dough to carving handmade, wooden step-stools. If a child shows a particular artistic talent or interest, they have the chance to work one-on-one with the art directors.

Athletic Program
Athletics

The Athletics Program at D.A.D. takes place in the Horace Mann gymnasium. The gym is open from 3:30 to 5:30 every day. Athletics is a vital part of the D.A.D. curriculum and a necessary way to unwind after a hard day of learning. Our Athletic coordinators run activities such as Bombardment, "Individ," knockout, and basketball tournaments. Children are given an opportunity to develop skills and enjoy physical activity under the careful supervision of D.A.D. staff.

Cooking

A group of 10-12 children cook in our kitchen three or more times a week. Kindergarteners also have the opportunity to cook during their 12:30 - 3:00 time. The cooking program allows children to develop skills such as measuring and following instructions as well as introducing them to the joys of cooking.

Homework

D.A.D. stresses the importance of homework and quiet study time for our older students. There is always a space away from the activity that children can use to complete their assignments. Every Tuesday, D.A.D. has D.E.A.R. - "Drop Everything And Read" - where an entire hour is devoted to homework and reading. We also have a DEAR-After-Dayers list where children who work exceptionally hard are acknowledged. The staff is also available to help children with any questions.
